Famous Draft Horse Rescued After Neglect

A very special horse was given a new lease on life thanks to the kindness of a Guernsey County woman.

In August Lisa Gordon took in a new rescue. His name was Ollie, an American Shire draft horse and he was in bad shape. Two teeth knocked out, sore feet, a skin infection and malnutrition. Ollie quickly came around at Frog Pond Farm on his rehabilitation diet of five meals a day, gradual exercise and vet care.

A few weeks into his time at the farm, the President of the American Shire Association called to tell Lisa exactly Ollie who was.

"He told me that we had in our barn, Fox Valley Oliver which is a Shire representative for Breyer models 2008 World of the Breeds model, he’s a national champion, he’s special," said Gordon.

Although his story may sound tragic, Ollie has found a forever home at Frog Pond Farm. His story will show the world that any horse can fall on hard times and that any rescue horse can do whatever it puts its mind to.

"He’s just great to have around, he’s going to make a great representative for our rescue, I think that he will show people that it doesn’t matter what the horse’s accomplishments are, they’re still at risk to end up in a situation that is not good for them," said Gordon.
