Dodging Rain Drops During the Fair

ZANESVILLE, OH – The 180th Edition of the Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair kicked off with some rain.
The National Tractor Pullers Association Truck and Tractor pull was canceled Sunday night but day two has gone by with minimal disruptions.
Jerry Miller, the President of the Muskingum County Fairboard, says they did delay the Harness Race from 2PM until 3, but other than that, they’re staying on schedule.
“It has affected the grounds, we’re very muddy!” Miller said. “But we still have pavement areas and there’s still plenty of fair food and Junior Fair events going on in the buildings. People are more than welcome to come, just have to understand, give us a little leeway with the mud, we can’t control it.”
Jamie McConnell, an Educator in 4 H Youth Development with the Muskingum County OSU Extension Office, says the only event they had to cancel was the Junior Fair Parade on Sunday due to the rain.
She says it was amazing to see all of the kids and parents jumping in to help other families out as water started to make its way into some of the barns.
“Honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts of the Fair.” McConnell said. “In general, any year is to watch our young people work together, help each other, learn how to show animals, and do various things and show appreciation for all of the different projects that are out here.”
The 180th Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair, sponsored by Lepi and Associates, continues tomorrow with more food, fun, and memories to be made.
