“Souper Bowl” Sunday

Tables at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors were filled with people supporting Christ’s Table, Eastside Community Ministry, Salvation Army, Fellowship of Christ, and the Senior Center, for the 16th annual Souper Bowl.

"There’s no denomination to hunger." said Keely Warden, Executive Director of Christ’s Table. "When all these different religions can come together for a good cause, and that’s feeding the hungry, a bowl of soup for a bowl of soup. It’s just wonderful to watch that right here before your eyes."

Soups, sandwiches, and never-ending cookie plates were just some of the options available to those attending. Warden says need grows in the winter, and this event comes just in time.

"This money that comes in can be used to pay that high electric bill in the winter, pay that high gas bill." she explained. "Those are the things that, when it comes to feeding the hungry, people think it’s all about food. It’s not just about food there’s so much more to it."

In the last sixteen years $133,000 have been put back into the community thanks to this event. Every penny raised will be split among the five benefitting agencies.
