Muskingum County Commissioners meet virtually with wife of a prostate cancer survivor

ZANESVILLE – This was done in an effort to spread awareness for the disease in the county. The Commissioners have met with Linda Hoetger many times in the past. This is an issue that is very close to Commissioner Jim Porter who is a survivor of prostate cancer as well. He says the disease is a very big deal and should be taken seriously by all county men.
“I was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago. No doubt that PSA tests saved my life. I, along with the County Commissioners and Linda, want to get the word out for how important it is for men over 55 years of age to get a PSA test. It saved my life,” Porter said.
Porter said getting a test is a good idea for all men. Prostate cancer can go undetected and you can be in very good health and still be susceptible to the disease.
“I had no symptoms when I was diagnosed. I’ll share a story about a year ago and there was five of us in a circle talking and three out of the five was diagnosed with prostate cancer. You can’t go anywhere without talking to someone that’s experienced prostate cancer,” Porter said.
The Commissioners will hold more meetings with Linda Hoetger in the future.
