Mushroom Vendor Makes Use of Farmers Market

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Rick Felumlee, owner of Mayapple Farms, has been growing gourmet mushrooms for years.
This year he’s bringing them to the indoor Zanesville Farmers Market. He has a wide variety of mushrooms.
“We have kind of a rotating variety from week to week. This week we have chestnut mushrooms, shiitake, oyster, lion’s mane and king oyster mushrooms. We also had a couple of our sampler packs but they sold out pretty quickly those were popular. My favorite currently are the king oyster mushrooms which you can see here in front of you. They’re a nice middle of the road mushroom, very versatile. They’ve got a nice, kind of meaty texture to them.”, Felumlee told WHIZ.
With the winter months upon us Felumlee has been growing indoors. He explains that there are various benefits to indoor growing.
“The benefits of growing indoors are, one, you can grow a larger variety of mushrooms than you can grow outdoors. Some of them haven’t figured out how to grow outside yet. You also get a little better quality cause you’re not dealing with the bugs or the insects and the dirt factor that you would have outside, as well as the dirt and the rain, that type of thing.”, Felumlee continued.
The Zanesville Farmers Market is indoors located at the Colony Square Mall.
