Students get Connected with Mental Health Services

ZANESVILLE – Zane State College has a new way to get students connected with mental health services.
The college introduced the student life assistance program in August. Counseling sessions can be scheduled face to face or over the phone.
“What I like most about the SLA is that it provides students the control to really tailor how they want to use this resource. So, they can use the phone option, they can receive support through text. They can schedule counseling face to face as well as online,” Student Counselor Heather Merry said.
The resource is available 24/7 and is there when students feel like they may need it most.
“If a student is in need to be connected to a mental health professional and its a Friday night at 9:00 and the campus is closed and maybe their outpatient counselor is not available (or) their agency is closed, they’re able to connect through phone or text using the student life assistance program and they’re connected immediately to that help.” Merry said.
