MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Muskingum County Community Foundation Distribution Committee (MCCF) will be awarding improvement grants to five local organizations.

These grants are coming from the first ever MCCF Fall Grant Competition and each organization will be awarded $10,000 each to fund their capital improvement projects.

“So many of our non profits in the community do great work and spend so much time building their programs, and serving the needs of the community that often they don’t get an opportunity to maybe address a need that they might have with their building,” Brian Wagner, MCCF Chief Executive Director stated. “This opportunity was for us to be able to make an injection of dollars so they can be able to make those capital improvements without having to sacrifice dollars going into their programs.”

There were over 20 applications from different organizations that were interested in receiving the grant. The five agencies that were chosen were Abbot Senior Living, Breaking Free Therapeutic Riding Center, FoodWorks Alliance, Nelson T. Grant Foundation and Zanesville Civic League.

“A great example is one of the ones that received a grant this year with  Breaking Free they needed a new awning and they needed a safe place for them to be able to transport their client, the individuals that come out and ride, to be able to get into the stable and the arena for them to ride and by providing the dollars to be able to do this to build that access, it opens up the programs to a lot more individuals to be able to take advantage of it, which we thought was a great project,” Wagner said.

Fundraisers are held throughout the year to fund both the fall and spring grant competitions. Wagner said the next fundraiser is the annual Groundhog Day Celebration that is set for January 28th at the Zane State College Campus Center. The tickets will be available December 6th, but online only.
