City Prepares for Tear Down of Temple

Masonic Temple Fire Aftermath

Work to tear down a historic downtown Zanesville building will begin soon.

Maple Leaf Demolition has been hired to raze the Masonic Temple, which caught fire over two weeks ago.

City of Zanesville Mayor Don Mason said that when the building begins to come down they are asking spectators to observe the razing from safe areas. Parking at the Secrest Auditorium is recommended.

They also said businesses in the downtown need to use 4th, 5th and nearby streets for customers, deliveries and other business activities. Intersections must be kept clear to allow for normal traffic flow, demolition equipment and emergency vehicles.

Friday, cones will also be placed and spectators should stay behind the cones.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department encourages those with respiratory conditions such as Asthma and COPD to avoid the area due to the potential for dust and fumes.
