Goat Dress Up Competition at the Blue Ribbon Fair

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A goat dress up competition was held in the sheep barn to see who showcased the best outfits.
President of the goat committee Julie Morrow says that the event is something that some kids plan for all year.
“We’ve had everything from Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers to football players and football, you never know what the kids are going to come up with. They look forward to it and they plan their costumes all year,” Morrow told us.
The competition was judged in 3 different age groups with kids ranging in age from 2 all the way to 16. Addison Deery, a participant in the 13 and up category says that she loves how creative the participants get with their goats.
“I would say what excites me about it is how creative people get. Like people think of costumes I would have never thought of. Like I saw someone with a tractor back there, I would have never done that. It shows creativity and gives, especially the younger kids the ability to be creative and have fun showing goats so that when they are in 4-H, they don’t think showing is just seriousness,” she said.
And just because the shows weren’t serious didn’t mean they didn’t bring out the crowd. Morrow told us a little bit of everybody comes out to watch the goats strut their fun outfits.
“I think this event attracts a lot of people from every barn. People from the midway hear about it and come over. I think that its an attraction for everybody,” Morrow told us.
There was also a poultry dress up competition held later in the day. It may have been a competition, but each kid was a winner and displayed true creativity.
