24th Annual Disaster Relief Golf Outing

Community members came out to Jaycee’s Golf Course on Friday despite the rainy weather to golf for a good cause.

The Muskingum Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross held its 24th Annual Golf Outing to provide relief for victims of disaster.

"We have about 80 fires a year in the five counties that we serve and it takes about $1,000 dollars funding per family to help with food and shelter for a fire," said Troy Alford, Development Director of Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

Alford says the Red Cross is not a government funded agency and the only way they raise money is through the United Way and community support. Different businesses came out to golf to support the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

"It’s a great feeling. I think we all can give a little bit and if everybody did then we would meet our goals," Said Richard Bowers, Vice President of Community Bank.

This year Alford says the American Red Cross raised about $14,000 for the Disaster Relief Fund. The Red Cross wants to thank all of its sponsors who provided food and refreshments for the event.
