Local Author looks to Inspire with New Book

Jimmy By Jim Sayre

ZANESVILLE, OH- A local author is coming back to his roots for a book signing this week.

Jim Sayre was born here in Zanesville at Good Samaritan Hospital in 1939, which is no longer standing.  At the age of 6 Sayre went completely blind, but he didn’t let that stop him. Sayre graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree and from the University of Tennessee with a Master’s degree.  He has also worked with some rehabilitation programs for the blind in Wisconsin and Ohio.  Sayre says he thinks the reason he was able to attend a school like the Ohio School for the Blind because of his mother.

“One thing my mother always did was she didn’t let me lose contact with my friends back here while I was in Columbus,” Sayre said. “She brought me home every weekend so I could be with my friends and family.”

Sayre said his purpose for writing this book was to share his story. The good, the bad, and all of the rest in between.

“Well I’m retired, I’m older, which usually means there isn’t a lot to do,” Sayre joked. “I thought my life was interesting and fun, to a degree there was a lot of stress in different areas of my life as well.”

Sayre hopes his book is an inspiration to those who may have a disability.  To celebrate all of his accomplishments in writing this book, Sayre will be holding a book signing this Thursday. The signing will take place at Adornetto’s, located at 2224 Maple Ave, at 3 PM.
