Veronica Norman

Veronica Ann Norman, 82, of Pleasant City, passed away Thursday (December 28, 2023) at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

She was born November 12, 1941 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Catherine Jerko.

Veronica graduated from Pleasant City High School and later graduated from Ohio University at the age of 50. She worked until she was 76 years old serving others as a social worker. She retired in March of 2018 from the Area Agency of Aging after 27 years of service.

She was a member of St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church in Pleasant City her entire life. She was active in their Ladies Guild and enjoyed baking nut rolls with them at the church hall. She also volunteered for the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Benedict’s Church in Cambridge.

Veronica loved spending time with her grandchildren and saw many of their sporting events to show her love and support. Her grandchildren also enjoy many holiday traditions because of her. One tradition was always having them read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas every Christmas Eve. She was an avid reader and enjoyed picking out new books from the Byesville Library. She loved traveling and one of her favorite trips was to Slovakia to explore her roots with her lifelong friend, Cathy Morrow. Another lifelong activity she enjoyed was watching Days of Our Lives with her daughter Susie.

Some of her favorite sayings were “I’ll get my stick” (but she never did); “How’s that strike ya”; “Don’t wish your life away”; “You’re nuttier that a fruitcake”; and each of her grandchildren’s cards were signed “You’re my favorite”.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Norman, who passed away August 7, 2011. They were married June 25, 1960.

Veronica is survived by five sons, Rick Norman of Gig Harbor WA, Pat Norman (& Melody Gress) of Pleasant City, Tony (& Chrissy) Norman of Cambridge, Jerry (& Angie) Norman of Pleasant City, and Steve Norman (& Alyson Brokaw) of Pleasant City; two daughters, Susie Norman of Pleasant City and Stephanie Huddleston of Pleasant City; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron (& Vickie) Norman of Cumberland, Tim Norman of Pleasant City, Ray Norman of Pleasant City, and Bunk Strauss of Zanesville; sixteen grandchildren, Lacy, Emily, Ethan, Grace, Devon, Lily, Mila, Kenli, Nicholas, Natalee, Aubri, Scarlett, Luke, Ben, Damon, and Veronica; two great-grandchildren, Rylan and Ridge; and her faithful pets – her dog, Crickett, and her cats, Pretty, Goldie, and Ruby.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (January 2, 2024) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday (January 3, 2024) at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church, Pleasant City, with Father Edward Gretchko officiating.

Burial will be at St. Michaels Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Veronica’s memory to The Guernsey County Dog Shelter.
