NEW CONCORD, OH- The Muskingum Valley Council of Boy Scouts held their yearly program to help scouts earn merit badges.

The Merit Badge College was held at East Muskingum Middle School. The program offers scouts an opportunity to get their classroom-based badges out of the way, so during the summer they are able to focus on being physically active.

“This year’s edition of the Merit Badge College is set up to facilitate the opportunity for these scouts to take a variety of merit badges, they have the opportunity for three merit badges through the course of this morning, which will be critical to their advancement through the ranks in scouting,” said Tony Durm, a Muskingum Valley Council Scout Leader.

The program takes places over three sessions, there will be two more sessions held on February 17, and March 23. 106 scouts from all over attended today’s session.

“There’s a variety of the citizenship merit badges, community and nations, citizenship of the worlds, citizenship of society, we had adult leadership training for youth protection, we’ve got personal management, just a whole array of merit badges, you know the breath of scouting, and that’s the opportunity for the kids to fill in those slots and work on their advancement,” said Durm.
