Zanesville Awaits National Weather Service Verdict
ZANESVILLE, OH – Following a night of intense weather that left its mark on Zanesville and surrounding areas, the National Weather Service is on the ground today to assess the storm damage and determine if a tornado was the cause.
The storm on April 2nd resulted in considerable damage, notably affecting barns, a home, and bringing down numerous trees on North River Road West and various other locations. The National Weather Service aims to ascertain whether the destruction was caused by tornados or if straight-line winds are to blame.
“This goes across from Parr Airport over to the river, and we’ve got some damage over in the Adamsville area also that lines up with this line of the storm. There’s also damage down in the Chandlersville area down on Coon Ridge. We’ve got my other employees out there looking at damage and The National Weather Service will look at it.” EMA Director, Jeff Jadwin said.
The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency is awaiting the National Weather Service’s findings, as they could unlock federal funding to help with the cleanup and rebuilding efforts.
“We’ll be sharing all this information with the Ohio EMA. With the flooding and the storm last night, we’ll be looking to see if we can get some funding to help with the cleanup that goes along with the storm. The big problem is that with the individual assistance with the homes that are damaged, we have to have uninsured properties damaged that we can claim with the federal government. We’ll see what happens there.” Jadwin said.
Last night’s storm serves as a reminder of nature’s unpredictability. For notifications on weather alerts, the EMA recommends signing up for the Reverse 911 Notification System app.
