City Council Meeting
Zanesville City Council passed a resolution Monday declaring "Trick-Or-Treat" to be held Thursday, October 30th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
First Ward City Councilman Mark Baker says a constituent suggested changing "Trick-Or-Treat" to Friday night so children would not have school the next morning. The mayor along with other members of city council made the argument that "Trick-Or-Treat" should be held Thursday to avoid traffic from football games.
"All things being equal I’m certain that we would have voted to allow that, allow trick-or-treat to happen on Friday so they kids could have it a little bit easier with no school the next day" said Baker. "But it’s all about safety. That overrides just about everything."
City council also declared an emergency and passed an ordinance revising zoning maps in the City of Zanesville. This allows the process for building a multi-family, medium to high end apartment complex to be expedited. Mike Jacoby, executive director of the Zanesville Port Authority says these units will be beneficial to the city.
"We have a housing study that indicates we have 99% occupancy in our apartments in the community. So, this allows for growth, investment, increased tax base in the community" said Jacoby.
Council also defeated an ordinance authorizing proper city officials to enter into various fuel purchasing contracts.
