Groundbreaking at Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation
The Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation broke ground on a building renovation today.
The central lodge has not been able to support the number of scouts coming to camp each summer. So the Muskingum Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America started raising money for various projects including for central lodge. The Executive Director of the Muskingum Valley Council, Ed Mulholland, said the central lodge project is key.
"One of the key areas of focus came to be are ability to better serve all of the scouts that were coming to camp," Mulholland said.
The renovations on central lodge will cost $0.5 million. The council raised the money through fundraisers and received many donations from private families and local companies.
"Clearly all this wide spread support shows us, tells us that the community appreciates the scouting program and the way we’re impacting young men’s lives," Mulholland said. "And young ladies in our venturing program both here at camp and in scouting programs that are happening night after night throughout all of our communities."
When completed the renovated central lodge will have double the seating capacity. This will allow all campers during the summer to eat inside instead of outside, under canopies.
