Council Passes Two Property Disposal Ordinances As Emergency

Zanesville City Council held their first meeting of the month of November Monday evening.

Two of the ordinances on the agenda Monday evening established property disposal legislation for two different locations in the area. One piece of property is located on fairview and the other on moxahala. Public Service Director, Jay Bennett, told us about the Moxahala location, formerly owned by the Army Reserves.

"The Army was down there for a long long time and they told the city several months ago that they were vacating and they’ve since vacated. We went in and secured the property. Kind of put feelers out on would there be anybody interested in either leasing or purchasing that property. There’s been a couple that have come back to us and said they might be interested."

Fred Buck, the Public Safety Director of Zanesville told us a little bit about the history and plans of the piece of property on Fairview.

"The property we bought for a fire station in the future. Our present Fire Chief feels its too far north to be of any practicality for us, so with that, we’re looking at another location. To do that we’ll have to get rid of this piece of property."

Buck says that selling this property will allow them to purchase another closer to the city, making for quicker response times. Council passed as emergency these two measures that will allow the city to advertise the properties for bids.
