Breastfeeding Awareness Month

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Every woman’s journey to motherhood is different, but one of the first decisions a new mom makes is how to feed her child.
August is National Breastfeeding Awareness month and the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department invited local moms out to its 4th annual party in the park at the Dillon Dam Pavilion to celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness and give a few helpful tips to new moms.
“Breastfeeding is a public health issue. It’s something that we want to make sure that moms have the information so that they can make informed decisions about breastfeeding. By bringing awareness to that, we’re able to give them information, let them know about the support that’s available to them,” said Lisa Davidson,
Breastfeeding Coordinator, Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department.
Chelsea Harris is a new mother and just relocated back to Zanesville with her husband from Texas in May. Although Harris describes her experience with breastfeeding pretty easy she wanted to share some advice to new moms.
“Just keep trying. Don’t give up it can be very difficult and stressful and you might cry about it a few times, but, just don’t give up because, it’s what we were made to do and it’s the best thing that we can give our babies,” said Chelsea Harris, New Mother, Breastfeeding Awareness Month.
