Mid-Ohio Food Bank Raises Awareness on the Fight Against Hunger
The Mid-Ohio food bank came out the the Muskingum County Commissioners this afternoon to discuss the fight against hunger in our community.
A member of the Columbus city council, Zach Klein, who is also a general council member of the Mid-Ohio food bank says that hunger is real and prevalent in Muskingum County and throughout all of Ohio as well.
"This isn’t a third world country problem, that our friends and neighbors are hungry, you may not know that but they are. We need to raise awareness that hunger is real and talk about the pathway to get people food so that they have food security, so that children aren’t waking up, that seniors aren’t trying to make ends meet on fixed income, aren’t waking up hungry. 9:41 "
Klein states that by having the county commissioners on their side, it will help to raise the conversation and get healthy meals to those in need.
"I think the next step is to continue to engage the commissioners, work with them on elected and civic leaders in Muskingum County and in Zanesville and the surrounding area business leaders who will want to participate in this conversation so that we can raise awareness and bring fresh food to folks that need it, to children that need it and seniors that need it because if fresh food is brought and folks eat fresh food, then healthcare costs can go down and the quality of life can increase."
Klein and his partner, Alex Homan are talking with 18 other counties to figure out how the food bank can continue to partner with civic leaders and businesses to end the fight against hunger.
