Toy Injuries in Young Children
As Santa prepares to deliver toys to all the good girls and boys…
New statistics show that those toys can cause pain to one child every three minutes. The Center for Injury Research reports that from 1990 to 2011 over 3.2 million children received a toy related injury.
More than half of the injuries happened among children younger than five years of age. Hazards from toys include choking from small toys in children younger than three. As children age the hazards increase from riding toys including scooters, wagons and tricycles.
To keep your child safe you can follow these safety tips.
- FOLLOW AGE RESTRICTIONS AND MANUFACTURER GUIDELINES
- EXAMINE TOYS FOR CHOKING HAZARDS
- USE RIDING TOYS ON DRY, FLAT SURFACE
- SUPERVISE CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN 8 ON RIDING TOYS
- WEAR HELMETS, KNEE PADS, ELBOW PADS ON RIDING TOYS
