Z.A.A.P Artist of the Month: Jane Evans
This month’s Z.A.A.P. Featured artist of the month is Jane Evans.
Evans art studio is located in the lower level of Z.A.A.P gallery on Main Street. There she creates art pieces working with needle felted wool.
"Well I discovered this thing called needle felting because I was selling the supplies to people for it and I thought i’d try it myself about three years ago, and I found out I could. I made some little animals, some sheep and then I joined Z.A.A.P and they treated me like an artist and encouraged me so i started doing more ambitious works, " said Jane Evans.
Evans began creating with wool in 2000. She and her husband Bob bought 57 acres of land to raise sheep for their wool. Now she creates 3-Dimensional sculptures using the wool she hand dyes. As far as being called an artist, Evans is very modest about holding that title.
"Well, I was somewhat used to knowing that I had some art talent, I was an art major originally. I was first called an artist just from dying my wool here and creating beautiful wool from spinning, and then being here and being called an artist, it encouraged me."
You can view Evans unique art work during the Friday, December 5th, Art Walk, or weekdays from 9-5 at her Z.A.A.P studio located at 625 main street.
