High School Counselors Educated About Financial Aid
Once a student is accepted into college the next step is determining how much financial aid they are eligible for. Because of this, it’s important for high school councilors to be educated about financial aid.
Earlier today the Ohio Association Of Student Financial Aid Administrators held a workshop at Ohio University Zansville for high school counselor. The presentation included information about upcoming changes, state and federal financial aid updates, education policy updates, and information on how a family’s contribution is determined.
"It’s so important for them to understand the federal and state update and what it takes for a student to understand how to fill out the FAFSA to get financial aid and some of the really difficult questions that are on there, and how to answer them correctly so that it can benefit them in the long run," stated Vicki Delucas, Financial Aid Coordinator at Ohio University Zanesville.
One of the major changes this year will be parent information.
"A lot of the changes are parent information like who do you put on the FAFSA, you know. Information about your parent or step-parent biological parents, things like that that students sometimes have a hard time putting on what they know is correct. Which sometimes effects their financial aid to a great deal," said Delucas.
Seminars just like this one are being held at Universities all around the state. Ensuring that all counselors are appropriately educated about financial aid.
