Mid-East Criminal Justice Students Receive Educational Gift

Criminal justice students at Mid-East Career and Technology received an educational gift from the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office.

Students waited anxiously outside Mid-East as Sheriff Matt Lutz dropped off their newest educational tool, a Kawasaki Mule.

"We got an agreement with both our EMA Director, and the school, we still are in possession of it, it will still be of use for us. We can use it anytime we need to, we can come get it. But, we’re going to allow the vocational school to house it and use it for the criminal justice program," stated Lutz.

The UTV will be used as a training tool for the criminal justice students .They will participate in vehicle patrols around campus, and will also have to opportunity to practice making vehicle stops. Criminal justice teacher Phil Snider says that he’s thankful for the Sheriff Office’s support.

"The sheriff has always been extremely cooperative and supportive of our program. I happened to mention to him one day that I was interested in having a vehicle here in the next couple of years and he mentioned he had the Kawasaki Mule that would be available, and the partnership began that way."

Students will learn how to properly drive the UTV before they begin campus patrols.
