Blue Jackets Prospects Show Out at Annual Stinger Cup

COLUMBUS, OH

Out in Columbus, Blue Jackets fans had the opportunity to check out the latest draft picks and prospects for the annual end to the team’s development camp, and the “5th Line” went home with both hype and hope for the team’s future.

The OhioHealth IceHaus, once again hosting the annual Stinger Cup. The 28 players for the Jackets split up into two teams, blue and white, for a scrimmage of three 15 minute periods, and it was quite the high-scoring affair at the IceHaus. The blue team might have scored first through 2023, just pick Andrew Strathmann, but the white team certainly took over in the second period, as 2024 draft pick Charlie Elick found the back of the net, helping lead the team to a 7-2 win, and claiming the annual Stinger Cup.

Fourth overall pick Cayden Lindstrom did not suit up for the scrimmage, as he continues to recover from injury a season ago, as much as he wanted to play in front of the home fans.

“Oh, of course I really want to be out there. I just want to be on the ice, I want to be on ice every single day. But, I don’t know, it’s just, I’ve been going pretty hard before combine, to get ready for combine and this. But, we just thought it was the best idea to, you know, take some rest and kind of, kind of prepare for main camp” said Lindstrom.

So more precautionary than anything else, as Lindstrom got to watch and enjoy the hockey played along with the fans at the packed IceHaus. The 6’3, 18-year old plans to take some time to himself before ramping things up later this year.

He added, “yeah, I think for the next week or two, I’ll just probably end up hanging with family because, I haven’t got to spend much time with them very much. Obviously I’ll have the end of the July and all of August and a bit of September to, to really go hard. So I think, the next couple of weeks, I’m just going to take it easy and kind of do light stuff in the gym and work on mobility and stuff like that.”

The Blue Jackets faithful cannot wait to see what the, forward along with the rest of the team brings when camp rolls around in a couple of months’ time.
