Betty Haynes

Betty Jane (Rochester) Haynes, 90, of Byesville, passed away Monday (July 8, 2024) at Southeastern Med, Cambridge.

She was born May 8, 1934 in Byesville, daughter of the late Lawrence Rochester and Lela (Bates) Rochester.

A 1952 graduate of Byesville High School, Betty worked as an administrative secretary at Byesville Elementary for over 30 years.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and sang in the church’s choir for many years.

She enjoyed cooking and tending to her flowers and garden. Betty was an animal lover all her life and took pride in raising her Shih Tzu dogs.

She cherished spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. “Bo” Haynes, who passed away December 28, 2023. They were married June 6, 1953. Also deceased is a brother, Larry Rochester; a sister, Barb Savage; and a niece, Tammy McElroy.

Betty is survived by three sons, Timothy Haynes of Byesville, William J. “Gig” (& Debra Lynn) Haynes III of Cambridge, and Daniel Haynes of Senecaville; a daughter, Michelle (& Vaughn) Schneider of Cambridge; fourteen grandchildren, Sierra, Michael, Timmy, Jeremy, Kelly, Patricia, Sara, Melissa, Ryan, Mallory, Josh, Benjamin, Tyler, and Taylor; twenty-four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her dog, Bella, whom she loved dearly; and the former Byesville Elementary students who would talk to her regularly.

Visitation will be held Thursday (July 11, 2024) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will be held Friday (July 12, 2024) at 11 a.m. with Evan. Woody Biggs officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.
