Second Meeting of Putnam Underground Railroad Forum Happening July 25th

ZANESVILLE, OH – Don’t miss the second meeting of the Putnam Underground Railroad Forum, happening on July 25th.

The gathering will start at 7 PM and take place at the historic Putnam Presbyterian Church. This month’s program will focus on verifying the Underground Railroad connections of Putnam’s Network Freedom Sites.

“Tomorrow, it focuses on the five specific sites. More details about why those particular sites were noticed as sites for the Underground Railroad. Documentation verification that we were able to show that they really were part of the Underground Railroad. We’ll focus on those, and then some about the people who owned those homes or helped build them.” Muskingum County History Executive Director, Larisa Harper said.

The forum series is open to the public and is completely free of charge. Meetings are held every 4th Thursday of each month. The theme for the Forum’s Inaugural Season is “Old Putnam: Stories That All Americans Can Relate To, Regardless of Where They Live.”

“Every generation needs to know more about our local history. Day to day, we hear about national history, some state, and a little bit of local. But you really need to know what happened in our community 200 year ago so that we can grow to respect it, appreciate it, and then preserve it for future generations to know.” Harper said.

The Putnam Presbyterian Church is located at 467 Woodlawn Avenue in Zanesville. For more information, visit the Muskingum County History website.
