Plans in the Making to Clean Up the Muskingum River
The Muskingum Riverway Advocacy Council is working on clearing the river from snags and debris.
This afternoon, the group met to discuss ways they can clean up the Muskingum river and finalize plans of leasing an office space that will give them a more prominent location. President, Jake Creeks, says they would like to clean up the river before boating and fishing season.
“Today we are going to send out the permit applications through the core of engineers, official wildlife, the state of Ohio to get their blessing to go ahead and start removing those dangerous snags, get the islands out of the river and get the river back in it’s banks for there to be safe boating and fishing.”
Creeks says by removing the snags, it will benefit many businesses along the river.
“Right now, it’d be the snags that are unsafe to boating, and the debris removal. Down the road we wanna put up mile markers and such and just clean the river. We’d like to get the businesses that’s up and down this river to start using their back door instead of their front door. It’ll get the people coming in the back door and get the businesses established, more money economic reasons.”
The council is made up of four counties: Washington, Morgan, Muskingum, and Coshocton.
