Removing Snow from your Driveway and Sidewalk
Multiple snow storms this past week have left sidewalks and driveways covered in several inches of snow.
Even though the snow has stopped for now, the temperatures have not gone up which means without assistance the snow is not going to go anywhere any time soon. Store Manager at the Do-it-Center on East Pike Don Miller gives his tips to getting rid of the snow and ice.
“The best way to treat that is going to be to with either ice melt if it’s concrete so it doesn’t tear up the concrete mixed with maybe some sand for traction or if it’s driveway basically just go with sand because you don’t want to put any salt on your driveway if it’s gravel,” Miller said.
Miller continued that if you put salt down on gravel it’ll thaw the ground and turn it into mud. Miller said the tried and true shovel is always a great way to rid your driveway of snow.
“Get a decent shovel like the ones with a bent handle that saves with your versus a straight handles,” Miller said. “They’re a little bit more expensive but they definitely help your back.”
Another way to help your health while removing snow and ice is to take frequent breaks. If there’s a big storm on the way Miller said going out once or twice during the storm to limit the strain on yourself.
