African Children’s Choir

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The African Children’s Choir is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an American Tour that will make a stop in Zanesville.

African Children’s Choir Tour Leader Jim Luzze shared how lives are transformed through the power of music, education and hope. Not only the lives of the children but also the audiences they inspire.

“To get time, the chance, the opportunity to meet these children and you’ll have quite an experience with them. Really understanding. Speak to them, you will find that there’s something in there. There’s a difference, there’s a joy that you can not fully explain. But the interaction they will have with the team and the children, they will remember for the rest of their lives,” Luzze said.

The choir is comprised of nine girls and eight boys aged 8-to-11, who can speak multiple languages. They perform popular children’s tunes, traditional spiritual songs and vibrant African cultural pieces.

“They should expect to, first of all, hear the old hymns. But the old hymns have been improved. We have put an African upbeat to them. So they might not be worrying. You know you will find yourself standing up to dance. Then they should also expect some African performances, we have a drum piece and we also have an African dance,” Luzze said.

The choir will perform 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 30th at the Coburn United Methodist Church located at 3618 Maple Avenue in Zanesville. The event is free and open to the public.
