Somerset Mayor Dies in Perry County Crash

Somerset – The State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle accident that took the life of the Mayor of Somerset.

The accident happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Rush Creek Road near State Route 13 in Reading Township in Perry County.

The Lancaster Post reports that 68-year-old  Thomas Johnson of Somerset was traveling eastbound on Rush Creek Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a guard rail, traveled down an embankment, and overturned before coming to final rest.

Johnson was transported to Genesis Hospital in Somerset where he was pronounced deceased.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Perry County Sheriffs Office, Reading Township Fire Department, and Med-Flight.
