Paddle for Heroes Veterans Day Commemoration
ZANESVILLE, OH – Paddle for Heroes embark on their annual Veterans Day journey to honor those who served.
There are many ways to honor the people who have served and continue to serve this country. Vice president of Paddle for Heroes, Joey Butts, wanted to take a different approach by encouraging veterans and first responders to come out and heal through nature and physical activity.
Joey Butts said it’s important to come out and participate no matter the weather conditions.
“We do the Veterans Day trip rain or shine,” Butts said. “We’ve done it out here in the snow before. As long as it’s safe. The only time we come off the water is if there’s unsafe conditions. So other than that, we push through just as if we were still in uniform. We push through no matter what the conditions are, so we treat our events that way as well.”
Veterans and first responders are encouraged to come out and take advantage of the scenery while using the time to “paddle through the healing process” which is a phrase emphasized in the Paddle for Heroes philosophy.
“With veterans, sometimes it’s tough to get them involved in stuff so if you’re out there, if you’re listening or reading an interview featuring Paddle for Heroes, just know we’re here for you. All you have to do is pick up the phone, end us an email or reach out through Facebook,” Butts continued, “If you’re a veteran out there looking for some comradery since you aren’t with your brothers and sisters in uniform anymore, we can be your new second family besides your blood family.”
