The Wayfarers To Be Featured On “Song Of The Mountain”
In early 2010 five local musicians came together playing their own version of American Roots music to form, The Wayfarers.
“We just try to have a good time in terms of expressing old time music together, and kinda our own versions yet staying true to what it is, we have a good time,” said band member, Josh Hartman.
Their spirited approach to live performance is infectious, and people of all ages are drawn to their unique sound.
“We’ve played crowds that have had two-year-olds get up and dance, and like 99-year-olds dancing,” said member, Nathan Zangmeister about their diverse audience.
Soon they will perform for their biggest audience ever. This weekend The Wayfarers are taping for the PBS series “Song Of The Mountains” in Marion, Virginia.
“We played at the Outer Banks Blue Grass Festival, the announcer of the PBS show was on the side of the stage and he heard us. He came up to us and was like, ‘Hey, I’m Tim White, I’m the announcer of Song Of The Mountain, would you guys be interested in playing with us?’ Of course, we were like yeah, absolutely,” recalled member, Brandon Bankes.
The show is currently airing on over 120 public television outlets across the U.S. and has the potential to reach more than 121 million people worldwide.
“It’s really exciting, slightly nerve wrecking,” stated the only female member of The Wayfarers, Kenzie Maynard. “It’s always exciting to get out music out there to as many people as possible.”
