Boy Scouts of America Hold Annual Turkey Shoot

Sunshine, shotguns, shells and smiles were the only things to be seen at Briar Rabbit Shooting Sports Sunday.

The Boy Scouts of America annual turkey shoot fundraiser attracted many people. For $2.50 a shot, people could head out to the range. Duncan Falls Troop #137 Chapter Representative, Keith McCormick, said the money raised goes to the scouts.

“This is just a fundraiser for the boys. A scout is thrifty so they try and pay their own way as much as possible. The big thing for this is for summer camp coming up this summer to help the boys raise money to pay to go to that.”

Mccormick said those who attended shot at targets against other competitors for various prizes. An ice storm last fall forced the troop to re-schedule the event for today so this was the first time they had the shoot in the spring. McCormick says the troop always enjoys having these kinds of events.

“A lot of guys like to hunt. Normally in the fall we use this to help guys sight their guns in for deer season. But it’s just a good time to come out and shoot and have fun.”

Mccormick estimates between 50 to 60 individuals came to shoot today. If you missed it, you can always attend their turkey shoot next fall. McCormick thanked everyone for coming out and supporting the boys.
