Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center Meets To Discuss Legal Matter
Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center met with the County Commissioners Thursday morning.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current lease of the building, but both sides had differing opinions on the issue. Muskingum County Commissioner, Jim Porter gave us background on the legal matter.
“They approached us several months ago with a check, and there seems to be some difference of opinion as to what we are legally required to rent to them for one dollar a year versus their office space. We were meeting today to try to work that out. Obviously they see it different than we do and hopefully we can work it out in the future.”
The building that the educational service center works out of is owned by the County Commissioners. Porter told us more about their current concerns.
“Our concern is the dollar a year. Theres a definition between special education rooms or facilities that they offer versus the office space for their superintendent and their employees. We feel that they should be paying rent for that space that we are required to honor the dollar a year lease for special education purposes.”
Though the meeting had an abrupt ending, Porter says they will meet again to work the issue out. We reached out to a representative of the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center and they did not wish to comment. WHIZ will continue to follow the story and bring you updates as they become available.
