Planning for a Zanesville Historical Museum
One area man wants to give Zanesville a place to learn about the past.
Gary Allen said there is a lot of rich history in Zanesville that people may not think about. It’s the second state capitol and home to the only y-bridge in the nation. Allen wants to open the Zanesville Historical Museum on the Muskingum River.
“There’s just little gold mine things if you know how to scan across the river and see them,” Allen said. “We’ve lost a lot of the buildings that were on the river do to the fact that the 1913 flood knocked out most everything in Zanesville.”
He said they’re taking small steps right now in getting the project organized. Not only does he want to have the museum downtown, but he wants it to help rejuvenate the heart of the city.
“We’ve watched through the years how our city has kind of faded around downtown,” Allen said. “This will be a great way to get rebuilding of the downtown area. Get some remodeling and income coming back into the town.”
For more details on this project, Allen is having an informational meeting at the John McIntire Library on Saturday at 10 a.m.
