Zanesville Police get a New Look
It’s been over three decades since the Zanesville Police Department has gotten a different color uniform, but that changed Wednesday.
The police department rolled out its new, dark blue uniforms Wednesday morning. Captain Tony Coury said the officers wanted a change. Night officers wanted the new uniforms to be able to blend in a little better and the dark uniforms are also cheaper.
“The light blue with the dark blue epilets was becoming harder and harder to find and also very expensive,” Coury said. “We could not just order a uniform and have it shipped here in a couple days. It had to come to a tailor. This uniform makes it much easier for the officers.”
By having cheaper uniforms, officers get more out of their yearly clothing allowance provided by the city. Each year, officers get a $1,000 stipend to purchase various items for their uniforms.
“All of us get a clothing allowance from the city per our contracts,” Coury said. “We update not only our shirts but our pants, boots, any leather gear, so it’s quite expensive.”
He said some of the leather items can cost around $400 or $500 to replace. Coury wants people to know that the officers wearing dark uniforms are not impersonating police. It’s just the new look of the Zanesville Police Department.
