Muskingum University President Retiring
Muskingum University announced today that University President, Anne C. Steele will retire next year.
When Steele took over the presidency in 2000, she became the twentieth president and also the first female president at the school. According to the university, Steele presided over the university as six new buildings were constructed and student enrollment nearly doubled (1,850 to 3,200) and the university’s operating revenue more than doubled, from $28 million to $55 million. Also, three new degree programs including 15 new majors were created during Steele’s presidency. The Schools endowment fund has grown by over $30 million.
In a statement today, President Steele, said “It is truly an honor to be part of a community of such dedicated faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends. Because of you, untold lives have been changed and promising futures are allowed to unfold. I will always cherish my time at Muskingum and in New Concord.â€
Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, Hal Burlingame, said “We accepted President Steele’s announcement with great regret and deep appreciation for her exceptional leadership and visions. She has led us in an unprecedented period of growth and development.â€
Chairman Burlingame also announced that a national search process will soon be launched to identify candidates to succeed President Steele.
