Woman Cut From Vehicle After Accident on U.S. 40
An accident at U.S. 40 and Timber Run Road resulted in one woman with head lacerations being cut free from her car by first responders Tuesday night.
The accident was called in at about 7:30 p.m., and the woman, who authorities say is around 60-years-old, was reportedly coherent and talking to EMS staff when she was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. Trooper T. E. Davis with State Highway Patrol explains what happened.
“We had two vehicles traveling eastbound on U.S. 40 here,” Davis said. “The one vehicle was in the left lane, making a left turn, and the second vehicle had sun in his eyes and never got slowed down before he rear-ended the first vehicle. The first unit that was turning left, she was at a complete stop, when the second vehicle struck her. He stated he was going approximately 60 miles per hour. Our investigation proves that was positive.”
Trooper Davis says it took about 20 to 25 minutes to free the woman from her vehicle. There were no passengers in her Dodge Caravan or the Ford F350 that struck her. National Trail Volunteer Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene with the State Highway Patrol. Although no airbags deployed during the accident, Davis says that their investigation shows all seat belts appear to have been worn during this incident. U.S. 40 was shutdown for about 10 to 15 minutes during cleanup. No names have been released at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
