ZMA Features Local Artist

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Creativity is a significant quality that often broadens perspectives and inspires innovation.

Zanesville Museum of Art Exhibition Coordinator Aaron Thompson announced an upcoming display that features the works of local artist Paul Emory.

“The show’s called ‘Magic Realism,’ paintings by Paul Emory,” Thompson said. “The opening is Thursday, February 6th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be snacks and refreshments and a cash bar, music from Brady Israel. It is free and open to the public thanks to Park National Bank. We have about 31 pieces from Paul, mostly paintings, oil paintings as a few three dimensional assemblages.”

Emory’s work features minute details of ordinary, everyday life that gives a local feel and strikes a sense of familiarity. And being able to see the work up close allows you to focus in on the finest quirks.

“Paul’s from the area and there’s a lot of stuff that… I’m also from Appalachia so I can… You know anybody who’s from this area can relate to a lot of the stuff that they see. Like, you know, hunters watching hunting videos and people at local dairy queens and drive throughs. A lot of what he does is like he does like a… He intentionally skews perspective and gives everything sort of a surreal vibe and he might you know, if you look, there’s a neat little sort of whimsical little addition and things that don’t really set with reality,” Thompson said.

Emory’s work will be on display at the Zanesville Museum of Art until Saturday, April 5th, located at 620 Military Road in Zanesville.
