Powell Pleads Guilty
A man pleads guilty in Common Pleas Court in Muskingum County to raping and photographing a child under the age of 10.
The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office said 33-year-old Shawn Powell pled guilty to one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor and one count of rape of a child under the age of 10, which carries a life sentence. Prosecutor’s said that mean he’ll serve a life sentence unless the Ohio Parole Board determines that he should be released. The first time that the Ohio Parole Board can consider that release will be after a set number of years decided by the judge.
The state has recommended that Powell not be considered for parole for at least 18 years. Should Powell be released he will be a lifetime sex offender registrant.
