S. ZANESVILLE, OH – The Village of South Zanesville is partnering up with the AARP to host a Senior Safety Class.

The class will be held on Thursday, November 5th from 5 to 7PM at the VFW Post 1058 and it’s open to seniors from all over Muskingum County.

Joe Miller, the South Zanesville Village Administrator, says the class will cover topics like fraud and scam prevention, home safety, driving safety, emergency preparedness and more.

“They also, once they complete the two hours class, they receive a little pack, which we’ll show you in a minute, that has a 3 day supply of food and water for each attendee.” Miller said. “It also has a light in there, it has a poncho, it has a safety blanket or a solar blanket type of thing, and just things to help them get through an emergency until things settle down.”

Miller says the Village received a grant from AARP to purchase the emergency kits that’ll be handed out at the end of the class.

He says with the recent summer storms, this class is a great thing to help anyone brush up on some skills that could save your life.

“With things the way they are today, there’s more and more emergencies, it seems like they come up all the time and AARP was kind enough to give the Village a grant in order to purchase those items as well as put on the class.” Miller said. “It is being taught by one of the Fire Fighters here that is also a full time trainer in Columbus at one of the Fire Departments.”

Registration is required for the Senior Safety Class and you can do so by calling (740)-455-8762.
