Zanesville Community Gathers for Brunch for Justice, Revitalizing Local NAACP Chapter

ZANESVILLE, OH –A movement to restore a historic civil rights organization is gaining momentum in Zanesville. This morning, community members gathered for Brunch for Justice—an event aimed at fostering connections, collaboration, and ultimately, revitalizing the local NAACP chapter.
The Zanesville branch of the NAACP was originally founded in 1920 but later disbanded due to challenges within the community. Over the years, there have been efforts to bring it back, and today’s gathering marked the latest push toward that goal. Attendees came together to share conversation, camaraderie, and of course, good food.
“We did have a great turnout we really did, and we were so excited about that, NAACP committee member Stacey Duling-Corbin said. “So, we’re hoping with this reorganization that with the climate of today with the administration that we have right that we can be more supportive in the community because there are a lot of things that go on here inside of Zanesville that people just don’t know about that are not in favor of people of color.”
Many in attendance expressed their personal reasons for supporting the chapter’s revival, discussing their hopes for the future and the impact they want to make within the community.
“I love my home. I love Zanesville again, born and raised here and so it’s not all bad. It’s just the fact that there are a lot of social injustice and educational injustice and housing injustice in any qualities that happen here and so we wanna be in support of that and hopefully people will bring themselves to help us in the ways of being a member and just speaking out, so we’ll be able to speak out because numbers matter,” Duling-Corbin said.
While the Zanesville NAACP chapter is not yet active on social media, those interested in membership or learning more can connect with committee members on Facebook.
