Community Unites at Zane State to Speak Out Against Sexual Assault

ZANESVILLE, OH–It was a day of courage and compassion at Zane State College, where voices united to stand against sexual assault.

The Muskingum County Domestic Violence Coalition held a special public awareness event under the theme “Speak Up: No More Secrets,” focused on breaking the silence around sexual assault. The goal was to educate, uplift, and empower both survivors and supporters.

“We’re having an event today to bring awareness to sexual assault victims and the criminal justice system and how it works so we were having two speakers that are from prosecutor’s office and Law enforcement. Then we also have a 17-year-old teenager that’s going to speak too,” said Chair Dorothy Thomas.

The event featured emotional personal stories, support, and a heartfelt speech from a survivor. It gave victims, survivors, and the community a space to heal together.

Ron Welch, Muskingum County Prosecutor, added that providing education is the first step towards prevention.

The Muskingum Domestic Violence Coalition plans to host another event next year to continue raising awareness.
