Dickens Victorian Village holds opening day ceremonies

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – A holiday tradition in Cambridge, Ohio returns to Wheeling Avenue and Saturday saw the opening ceremony to mark the occasion.
For more than 20 years, the Dickens Victorian Village features over 100 life-sized mannequins dressed in Victorian-era style with festive or historical themes through the downtown area. Today the city celebrated the official start of the season with vendors in the street and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:30.
“Oh I just love it. I come down here every year and I still enjoy seeing them all. You know, some get costume changes, some don’t, but it’s definitely a historic moment,” said Diane Dearnaley, a local resident.
The Dicken Victorian Village runs from now through Dec. 31 and the displays have brought major foot traffic to local business like Black Cat Vintage or Rooted Botanicals & Teas.
“It definitely brings the attention to all of the little shops that are in the area. You know, people come to see the vendors and find our store and our repeat customers. So it does begin the holiday season,” said Dearnaley, who works for Rooted Botanicals & Teas.
