Carrie Hockenberry

Our beloved Carrie Hockenberry, 44, of Frazeysburg Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
She was born on May 5, 1980 to Bobbi and Lowell Banbury. She was a ‘98 graduate of Danville High School. Carrie attended Ohio University where she attained an Associates Degree in Childhood Development, and this helped her pursue her passion – working with children. She utilized her faith in Christ, her imagination, and her skills to “start children off on the way they should go, [knowing that] when they are old they will not turn from it.”
Carrie has been a compassionate preschool teacher at Meadow View Church of Christ since 2006. She cherished her co-workers, especially her best friend and Director, Jennifer Hough, as well as her wise and steadfast pastor, Sam Dunn. Carrie loved teaching children; she loved her church; she loved her family.
There is not enough that can be said about Carrie’s devotion to her faith in Jesus Christ and her dedication to her own family and her church family at Meadow View. She was a loyal, faithful, and passionate disciple, always seeking for ways to pay it forward. Countless Bible Bowls, preparation for Women’s Sunday school, community dinners, funeral preparation, Vacation Bible School, Summer in the Son, and more. Carrie knew with conviction that whatever [she did], in word or deed, [she did] everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Carrie’s unwavering faith and devotion to her church and various small groups of faithful believers was only surpassed by her devotion to her husband and children.
Through her own dedication, she has been a consistent role model to her daughter Gillian and son Wade. In turn, they have found their own passions in bowling and camping. Carrie and husband Scott believed strongly in getting their children into the great outdoors, and their camping adventures with family will remain the most sacred of memories.
In addition to her loving and devoted husband Scott, her beautiful and courageous daughter Gillian, and her handsome and spunky son Wade, Carrie is survived by her parents, Bobbie and Lowell Banbury, her brother Adam Banbury (Kim), Grandma Faun Parker, Father-in-law Dave Hockenberry, Mother-in-law Linda Berry, Brother-in-law, Steven Hockenberry (Peggy) and many additional family and friends. It is a true understatement to say that Carrie will be missed by all.
Carrie was preceded in death by her grandfather Robert E. Parker Fawn, who had the honor of baptizing Carrie.
Carrie’s impact on this community will remain deep and everlasting. The time she took to deepen her faith and understanding of truth, and her willingness to share this, was her priority. Her greatest desire would be for all to come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as King of Kings, as Lord and Redeemer. Although Carrie left us too soon, John 14:1-3 reminds us of Jesus’s words: Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. We look forward to seeing Carrie again in paradise.
