Breaking Free TRC Brings Books to the Barn

ZANESVILLE, OH – If you love books and animals, this weekend is the perfect chance to combine the two.

Breaking Free Therapeutic Riding Center is holding Read with a Horse on April 19th. Kids will get an hour to read to a real horse using a book from home or one provided onsite. Families can choose from one of two sessions. Sessions run from 10 AM to 12 PM and 12:30 to 2:30.

“It’s amazing. The kids love it. The horses love it. Children of all ages are invited to attend. We ask that they be accompanied by an adult. Parents and guardians get to go in and they can read too if they want to. Attendees can bring carrots or cut up apples and then we have these cute little Easter baskets that they can use to give the horses treats after they read to them,” Breaking Free Volunteer Judy Beetem said.

The Muskingum County Literacy Council will also be there, giving each child a free book and there’ll be crafts and activities too.

“This is a great opportunity for children, parents, and grandparents to be able to bring their children and share a good book with a horse. Who has an opportunity to be around a horse when you’re a city kid? We’ve got a variety of different books that they’ll be able to read with a horse,” Muskingum County Literacy Council Community Literacy Liaison, Cindy Lawyer said.

Entry is by donation, with a suggested $15 per family. All proceeds support the center’s riders and horses. You can find more details on the Breaking Free TRC website.
