Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel Makes a Stop in Zanesville
ZANESVILLE, OH – Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel made a stop here in Zanesville.
Tressel took a tour of the Stewart Glapat, a 4th generation family owned manufacturing business that makes extendable conveyor belts.
Following the tour, Tressel took some time to answer questions and talk with local business and education leaders about our area’s workforce strengths.
“One of the things we’re trying to get a handle on is exactly what are the desired outcomes we need in our workforce throughout the State and how are our partners making sure that occurs,” Lt. Gov. Tressel said. “That’s why it’s so much fun to go to manufacturing operations, or yesterday we were at a refinery, and just making sure that we’re aligning what we’re helping with on the state level with the training of people who are going to be able to take these people to the next level because they’re constantly changing.”
Tressel said education is the way to help further strengthen the workforce here in Ohio. He believes learning never truly ends because some fields are constantly changing and evolving.
“I think what’s been fun to watch as you go around the different regions is how well the businesses and the educational entities try to support one another,” Tressel said. “In terms of, hey here’s what we need, okay we’ll help train for that, here’s some of the skills that our people maybe need to get honed up on a little bit, so we’re going to work on those. Here’s some things coming over the horizon and so we’re going to need to be thinking about and then also on the creative side, problem solving, solutions based, you know trying to figure out. We know people all around the world are trying to do similar things and we got to make sure we do it better.”
The Lt. Gov.’s visit served as an opportunity to help inform the public about Ohio’s Workforce Playbook.
