ZANESVILLE, Ohio – As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, also known as its semi-quincentennial, Ohio is gearing up to celebrate the vast developments it has made in shaping the nation into what we see today.

America 250-Ohio Communications Director Chris Hurtubise explained how her organization is shaping community efforts in all of the state’s 88 counties to celebrate their contributions and to recognize how they fit in.

“America 250-Ohio is Ohio’s commission to plan the U.S. semi-quincentennial celebration, or as we like to say the 250th anniversary of the United States, which will happen on July 4th, of 2026. So Ohio is getting involved in a big way to engage all 88 counties in celebrations and commemorations. And our commission is basically coordinating all those wonderful activities,” Hurtubise said.

One of the initiatives that America 250-Ohio will be conducting is multiple tourism trails that include places that have played an integral role in the development of the American culture that we experience today.

“We have projects that we’re calling signature events and programs,” Hurtubise said. “And we have created a program we’re calling Trails and Tales, which are driving trails that tell big stories about Ohio’s history. Because our big idea as a commission is to tell Ohio’s story and the impact that Ohio and Ohioans have had on the U.S. for 250 plus years. And so these trails give us that opportunity.”

Zanesville will be included on the Glass and Pottery Trail, which will include stops at The National Road & Zane Grey Museum, The Zanesville Museum of Art, The Alan Cottrill Sculpture Studio and the Mosser Glass Museum in Cambridge.
