Muskingum County Jail Project Stays on Track Despite Rain
ZANESVILLE, Ohio—New updates on the future Muskingum County Jail.
The new facility is set to be built on the site of the former Mosaic Tile Company factory, a location many consider ideal. Despite recent severe weather, officials say construction remains on track.
“We’re still on schedule even though we had quite a few rain delays. The crews out there have done a great job getting out there and working when they can, keeping us on schedule…pumping water off the site and getting the dirt moved in a timely manner so we’re excited. They should be pouring footers in the next week or so, weather permitting, so things are on target,” said Kade Haddox, county administrator for the Muskingum County commissioners.
Crews have been working through delays to stay on pace, and most of the design work is already complete.
“Everything from a structural standpoint and aesthetics have been designed. Obviously, changes and projects this large, it’s hard to account for everything that comes up. The commissioners have provided drawings, I believe at the groundbreaking, but it’s on schedule, it’s looking good and it’s going to be a positive thing for the community,” Haddox said.
Officials expect the jail to be completed by August 2027. For a project of roughly $90 million, they say this is a relatively quick turnaround for a project of this scale.
