Friday Zane State College hosted the 24th annual Ethnic Food Fair.
More than two hundred people gathered at Zane State not and only partake in the Ethnic Food Fair but also kick off Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.
“The Ethnic Food Fair was started by a former employee Joyce Farmer Smith. We will recognize students who are honored with the Joyce Farmer Smith Scholarship today. As well as a kick off to the Martin Luther King weekend. It’s a great celebration of two lives and to legacies,” said President Zane State College Chad Brown.
The culinary students have been prepping for this fair for months. These students personally selected everything on the menu from beginning to end. Brown said events like these are important for the community.
“I think exposure to diversity of experiences are important. You’ll be amazed at how many people come and they get a chance to try soul food and the other ethnic cuisine. And they never had that opportunity before. It’s also a great opportunity for the students. All the work for this event is done by the Zane State College culinary students. And that’s been a tradition for the past 24 years” said Brown.
Chef Marco Adornetto said this event helps give his culinary students real world experience.
